Spring is here

Let go, stop helping, go to sleep

Johanna Moritz May 1, 2014

Its hard not helping. Especially in Thai, I remember when I first starting to receive Thai I wanted to always help the practitioner by lifting my leg, lifting my arm so they did not have to do all the work. I understood quickly that I was not supposed to help at all. My job was to be relaxed in a total passive state and not help at all. Besides if the practitioner asked me to move or for feedback.

We all want to help and when you cant or shouldn’t it can feel weird and even uncomfortable. It can also bring up not welcomed emotions.

We are built to help. In Nuad Thai Yoga the work comes from the energy work and passive stretches. The passiveness or the "not helping" part from the client makes the energy flow move through better and the healing gets deeper.

It takes time to learn to relax and to stop helping cause it is in our muscle memory. The muscles have a awesome memory and when they have learned something, it is hard to get that out of the muscle and retrain. That is totally ok,

Nuad Thai Yoga helps you let go and train you to receive without helping. Doing less make you heal better.

I believe that one of the big reasons why we want to help is because we often feel that we owe something if someone helps us. And that is not a bad thing at all in life.

But when we pay someone’s service we should be able to give in and be ok with not helping.

Though it does not always have to be enough that we pay the person working on us.

I have often felt guilty when people are doing things for me and I feel I need to give something back. But a great thing with life is that event though we don’t give back in the same way or even to the same person. Life will bring us opportunity to give back in other ways. That observation has made me lessen the “guilt” part in receiving.

When you walk around or sit today. Become aware if you are holding unnecessary tension somewhere. Maybe hiking your shoulders? gripping your butt? how’s your feet, can you relax them more?

Your turn, have you noticed that you have had a hard time not helping in different situations when you are not supposed to? How did you get trough that?

I look forward hearing your thoughts on this.
